Plug and Play

Plug and Play is Enterprise Singapore’s Global Innovation Alliance (GIA) partner in Jakarta, Indonesia.

It is a stage-agnostic open innovation platform that runs accelerator programmes and corporate innovation activities in more than five countries and 28 cities globally. It was founded in 2006 in California by Saeed Amidi and Jojo Flores. Presently, Plug and Play has around 400 employees, made more than 1,000 investments, and has a global network of over 300 corporate partners.

Plug and Play is partnering Enterprise Singapore and the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) to run a GIA Acceleration and Demand-led Programme, which will support Singapore-based technology startups or SMEs in entering Indonesia through Jakarta.

GIA Acceleration Programme to Jakarta

The GIA Acceleration Programme to Jakarta is curated for high-potential startups and tech SMEs across all sectors, and will include rigorous growth training, market immersion and ongoing mentorship.

Virtual Programme

As a result of the situation brought about by COVID-19, the Jakarta GIA Acceleration Programme has been revised to the following:

  • Stage 1: Five-week virtual programme

  • The programme starts with a ‘Preparation’ phase, covering workshops, pitch polishing sessions, mentor matching, and mentorship sessions to position you for success in Jakarta.

Following that, there will be an in-market business connections segment, which will comprises one-on-one curated meetings with corporates and investors, as well as corporate sharing and networking sessions.

  • Stage 2: Optional one-week in-market immersion to Jakarta

  • The optional physical component for this programme includes potential follow-up meetings from Stage 1, and an invitation to Plug and Play’s Indonesia Expo/Demo Day in Jakarta. GIA startups will receive individual exhibition booths, access executive networking session, and a Pre-EXPO pitch polishing refresher session hosted by Plug and Play.

*subject to prevailing conditions & travel restrictions.

The total programme fees are $1,000 for Stage 1 and $1,000 for Stage 2.

More details will be released soon.

Physical Programme

The programme has three stages:

  • Stage 1: 4-week outreach and call for applications in Singapore

  • Open applications for Singapore-based technology startups and tech SMEs to apply to participate in the GIA Acceleration Programme.

  • Stage 2: 1-week selection and onboarding in Singapore

  • Successful applicants will undergo a general onboarding programme in Singapore, consisting of an introduction to Plug and Play as well as the programme curriculum. Participating technology startups and SMEs will also be introduced and matched to relevant mentors.

  • Stage 3: 2.5-week in-market programme in Jakarta

  • Introduction to the Indonesia ecosystem and business environment through a series of seminars and workshops conducted by Plug and Play’s VCs and corporate partners. There will be networking opportunities for business and investment matching. The in-market programme culminates in a Demo Day, where participating technology startups and SMEs get to pitch in front of Plug and Play’s larger VC and corporate networks.

GIA Demand-led Programme – Tech Showcase

Alongside Enterprise Singapore and in partnership with IMDA, Plug and Play also organises the GIA Demand-led Programme - Tech Showcase. This offers business and investment matching opportunities that allow participants to form new collaborations with Indonesian corporates.

The GIA Demand-led Programme will give technology startups and SMEs the opportunity to submit solutions to problem statements generated by Plug and Play’s network of corporates.

Typically run as a full-day programme, the Jakarta GIA Demand-led Programme has been revised as a result of the situation brought about by COVID-19, and will now take place virtually, with various business matching sessions taking place within the span of 1 month.

The GIA Demand-led Programme consists of the following segments:

  • Pitch Polishing

  • Successful applicants will attend a pitch polishing session to refine and improve their pitch delivery from established mentors. This segment will help participants better understand how to structure their pitches to address the problem statements of the corporates taking part in the programme.

  • Pitching to corporates

  • The programme culminates in a corporate pitching session. Participating technology startups and SMEs can pitch their ideas to corporates and look forward to business matching and networking opportunities. This segment will be focused on matching participants and their technology solutions with corporates that have a corresponding problem statement to be addressed.
