Develop Talent

Redesigning retail jobs, enhancing career progression pathways, and deepening the workforce’s skills are key for retailers to succeed in the changing industry. Take a look at some of these programmes that will equip you with the relevant skills to excel in the industry.

Skills Framework for Retail

Find out the latest retail trends and skills needed to stay relevant in key job roles in the retail industry. This includes retail operations, brand management, marketing, merchandising and e-commerce sales. The Skills Framework aims to create a common skills language for individuals, employers, and education and training providers. This facilitates skills recognition and the design of training programmes for skills and career development.

Job Redesign Portal

Developed by Enterprise Singapore and Workforce Singapore following a study with seven pilot companies and workshops involving over 70 retailers, the Retail Job Redesign Framework guides retailers in reviewing their employees’ job scopes, enabling them to improve productivity and efficiency, optimise workforce, and improve employee attraction and retention.

You can find the framework here with self-help resources including templates to implement job redesign, recommended pre-fitted solutions and access to information on financial assistance and professional services.

SkillsFuture Earn and Learn Programme

Companies in the retail sector can groom and retain suitable talent for retail-specific roles (such as retail supervisor and retail manager) through the Earn and Learn Programme (ELP). This is a work-study programme designed to help fresh graduates from the Institute of Technical Education (ITE) and polytechnics have a career head start in the retail industry.

Through an 18-month placement with structured on-the-job and institution-based training, you can provide individuals with the relevant skills to meet the needs of your company. Eligible SMEs can receive grant support to defray the costs of providing structured on-the-job training and to encourage young talent to set out career progression pathways.

Find out more about eligibility criteria and submit an online application here.

SkillsFuture Study Awards for Retail Sector

The SkillsFuture Study Awards for Retail supports early to mid-career Singaporeans in their efforts to deepen skills related to the sector. Study Award recipients will receive S$5,000 to defray course-related fees. Supportable courses include: e-commerce, digital marketing, data analytics, logistics, supply chain management and retail management.

Find out more here.

Partners

Beyond the above schemes, Enterprise Singapore works closely with Workforce Singapore (WSG) and SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG) on the development of talent in the retail sector. You can contact them for assistance.
