Moscow is the capital of Russia and has the largest population (an estimated 12, 506, 468 million) in the country. The city is located on the banks of the Moscow River, in the central part of the East European Plain.
Moscow is the most important transportation hub, as well as the political, economic, cultural and scientific centre of Russia. The city is served by six airports (the major ones are Sheremetyevo (SVO), Domodedovo (DME) and Vnukovo VKO), nine railway stations, three river ports and an extensive underground network – the Moscow Metro.
