Following industry feedback on the vibrancy of the Boat Quay precinct and neighbouring areas, the Ministry of Trade and Industry, the Ministry of National Development and the Ministry of Home Affairs implemented the following initiatives on a one-year pilot, with effect from 18 August 2025.
- Restaurants, bars, pubs, and nightclubs in the Boat Quay Historic District, Upper Circular Road area and Clarke Quay Conservation Area can apply for extension of liquor trading hours till 4am (on the following day) on Thursdays and Fridays.
- Businesses are allowed to submit proposals for new bars, pubs and nightclubs along the Boat Quay waterfront, Circular Road, Lorong Telok and Canton Street.
- Agencies will work with local stakeholders to resume regular closure of Circular Road on Friday and Saturday evenings as well as eve of public holidays, enhancing vibrancy in the area.
