Maputo is the capital of Mozambique. With an estimated population of 1.2 million, it is the country’s largest city and serves as the administrative, communications and commercial centre of the country.
Maputo is a cosmopolitan city rich in Bantu and Portuguese culture. Strains of Arabic, Indian and Chinese culture and language can also be detected. With the government increasing efforts to attract tourists and foreign investors, Singapore businesses should find Mozambique a welcoming place to expand into.
The economy is also mainly supported by its modern port located on Maputo Bay, where main exports include cotton, sugar, chromite, sisal, copra and hardwood. In addition to trade, the city also has robust manufacturing and service sectors.
The city is also home to several colleges and universities, and on track to build a pool of increasingly educated youths.
