The Consumer Protection (Safety Requirements) Regulations (CPSR) requires 33 categories of household products, also known as Controlled Goods, to be registered with Enterprise Singapore. These products need to be tested to specified safety standards and affixed with the SAFETY Mark before they can be sold in Singapore. These include testing for safety measures against fire, electric shock, explosion, radiation and other hazards that could result in injury, death or property damage.
Consumers are strongly advised to buy only Controlled Goods that are affixed with the SAFETY Mark.
What should you do when you detect non-registered Controlled Goods without the SAFETY Mark?
Market surveillance is an on-going effort. Suppliers and retailers are reminded that Controlled Goods must be registered before they can be advertised, traded or displayed for sale in Singapore.
As the safety authority, Enterprise Singapore takes a serious view of any non-compliance. Under the Consumer Protection Act, suppliers and traders who fail to comply with the provisions may face a maximum fine of $10,000 or imprisonment of up to 24 months, or both.
If you are aware of anyone who is supplying or selling non-registered Controlled Goods, please provide us with the relevant information (e.g. product type, brand/model, name of company, location, etc.) so that appropriate enforcement action may be taken. You can contact us at consumerprotection@enterprisesg.gov.sg or (65)1800-773-3163.
